Help for you in an emergency
If you look after someone who cannot look after themselves without your support, you may be worried about what would happen if you were suddenly unable to help them.
The Carers Emergency Card Scheme provides peace of mind that in the event of an emergency, the person you care for will receive help and support whilst you're not there.
How does the service work?
You create your own Emergency Plan. Once this has been registered, you will receive a Carer's Identification and Emergency Card. This is the size of a credit card you can carry with you at all times. It carries a 24 hour emergency telephone number and bears a unique identity number that links to your Emergency Plan. In the event of an emergency or something happening that prevents you continuing to care for your loved one or friend, the service will implement the support detailed on your Emergency Plan. This could mean simply contacting a family member, neighbour or friend who can help support the person you care for.
What are the benefits to you?
- You will feel supported
- You will be issued with a red card, which has a unique number linking to your emergency plan and two telephone numbers giving you 24-hour support in an emergency
- You will have peace of mind to know there is back-up if something happens to you
How much will it cost you?
There is no cost to you for registering with the service.
Carer's must be registered with Swindon Carers Centre to receive a card.
There may be a small delay in receiving a card, due to the number of referrals we receive to register and access the scheme.
